What we are dealing with here is, of course, a UFO — an unidentified flying object, or, as it is commonly called in Norwegian, a flying saucer.
For about three weeks now, otherwise sensible and trustworthy people from Åsbygda have repeatedly observed strange phenomena in the autumn sky. Phenomena that no one has been able to provide any reasonable explanation for.
Those who first set off this wave of reports and testimonies about unusual sightings were two students at a school for the hearing impaired.
One afternoon at the end of October, they were walking up the small hill towards the school. Then, according to their own account, they suddenly witnessed something that could serve as the opening scene of almost any science fiction story.
They have told us that they saw a glowing object coming from the north. That is, from Jevnaker. It came in on an arc towards the school grounds, which are located up here. It stopped above the ground and slowly descended. There it remained for approximately ten seconds before taking off again, moving diagonally upwards along the treetops, and then disappearing behind the ridge.
That is, in short, what happened.
They describe the object as glowing — almost like a sphere — with an intense light, but not so bright that it was blinding.

The Norwegian UFO Center has carried out measurements and investigations at the site, and it has been established with assistance from military authorities:
“Here we can see one of the three impressions that have been made in the ground. They are approximately 6 centimetres long and are equally spaced from each other. We have a similar impression over there, and another impression down there which is slightly different from this one.”
“Could it not simply be that someone has dug away some soil here?”
“That is highly unlikely. First of all, this has not been dug out. It is an impression that has been pressed down into the ground.”
“But what theories do you have about this? What kind of craft could it have been?”
“Well, it is quite clear that this appears to be a physical craft of unknown origin that has been here. But any more specific theories are difficult to make.”
“We are standing before a great mystery. Could it be from another planet?”
“Well, when we consider our solar system and all the galaxies that exist out in space, it is certainly a possibility. The possibility is there.”
“Last year, in the spring of 1976, we had something similar on Bømlo, at Espevær on the west coast. The impressions there had exactly the same contours and the same shape, but they were 26 metres long. So there is a significant difference in size, but the pattern was the same.”
“But if this is a creature from another planet, why do you think it would leave its footprints here in Åsbygda?”
“That is difficult to say. We do have areas here that are quite isolated, you could say. At the same time, there are a few houses scattered around. But exactly why they seem to be concentrating on Ringerike now in the autumn is hard to say. There have been many observations here recently, but I think it will take a lot to find a solution.”

The documents are certainly piling up at the local police station, and from what we understand, the military will take over the further investigation.
“It is quite clear that it is an object that has come into Åsbygda and landed in this field. What this object is, it is impossible to say. But several people have seen it, and it has shaken many people. They have become very frightened when they saw the object, and they almost do not know what to believe.”

“It is difficult to say. But I want to remain open-minded to the possibility that something like this can happen. There is much we do not know, and as long as the opposite has not been proven, I will remain positive towards the possibility.”
